Fantasy Heaven

Holy moly please give me a moment while I process the fact that SCOTT SCHUMAN (The Sartorialist) and GARANCE DORÉ are a COUPLE. How on earth did I not know that?!
But actually, they are two of my favorite people in this world. I was even at the bookstore yesterday looking at the Sartorialist book and wondered why there was a section devoted to GD. It's like a match made in fantasy heaven sent to make us earthlings amazed in wonder.

On another note, I am now a proud owner of a 5, and for you un-savvy non techies, that's what the hip people call the iPhone 5 (just kidding, we don't say that). This means that I am now connected to the world 24/7 and that I am officially a cool cat. But more seriously, I got my contacts transferred then somehow deleted them all once I came back to school after Thanksgiving (which was marvelous btw thanks for asking). So if you contact me and I have no idea who you are, don't be offended (this applies to most people). Anyway I now have Instagram and you can also challenge me to a game in scramble with friends (and I will defeat you). But it also does not help that even though I have unlimited data, Sprint has TERRIBLE service in sohads.

Now you may go to bed happy and fulfilled.

Thanks!

"Nostalgia needs time. One cannot accelerate meaningful remembrance." NYT

Now that Thanksgiving is finally upon us (nearly)  there will only be 2 weeks left in the semester upon our return on Monday. I've survived my first semester of college! I remember not being able to imagine myself in college when I was younger and I'd think Maybe I'll die before I get there... Well, silly 6-year old me was just not very bright. Anyway, I will commence this Thanksgiving break with a list of things to be thankful for:
1. People: family, friends, the whole lot! Because without people, you'd be very lonely and sad. Then there's all that wonderfulness that comes with them. It's like a package deal- you can't get one without the other.
2. The concrete jungle: I'm thankful for New York because it is such a wonderful place to grow up and as Neel Shah said in Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore"The suburban mind cannot comprehend the emergent complexity of a New York sidewalk." I couldn't imagine thriving anywhere else.
3. Opportunity: Without opportunity, the world would not progress.

Then all the other random wonderful things in the world (in no particular order):
1. Pho
2. Bubble Tea
3. Kimchi
4. Uniqlo
5. Cake
6. MTA
7. Moleskine
8. Muji
9. Google
10. Wikipedia
11. Facebook
12. Kellogg's
13. Nutella
14. Rice cakes
to infinity and beyond...

Marathon Man

Congrats on finishing your first marathon, Dad! Finished in less than five hours at an average pace of 5.8 miles per hour, wowzer! I guess those 4 days of only eating pasta actually paid off.

You deserve: cake.
and a high-five!

(Mom, make sure he sees this)

Saturday Night LIVE

and LIVE from SoHads, it's Saturday night!

"Hey, everyone thanks for coming out. My name is Julia and I'm so excited to be hosting SNL tonight! The producers told me I had to write a monologue for tonight, but life got in the way (aka Twitter) and it just never happened. Other than spending my life on the interwebs, this past week I ate a smore that a friend perfectly cooked a marshmallow for, and uh, that's it. Just kidding, I watched Greys Anatomy and Downton Abbey, and I told myself that I would watch Covert Affairs if I spent an hour on my case study (which isn't going to happen). Welcome to the wonderful world of South Hadley, where dreams go home to hibernate on the weekends. Speaking of home, this chica is returning to the wonderful city soon and I'm really excited to get my hands on H&M $5 flannels. Added bonus: holiday shops are open in Union Sq. yay for random finds! Adding on to the list of things I did this past week is turning into a reading monster. I'm outreading the pace at which the library can fulfill my book requests. I find myself encouraged by the comforting warmth of the fireplace that now has a 57 minute timer which was probably installed because people like me kept falling asleep and running up the gas bill. Breaking Dawn Part 2 came out on Friday and I just want to see it and get this Rosalindamund thing over with because I'm just so curious to see how they portrayed miss Rosalindamund (what's her name again?). But I mean really, I just thought every part about her was just super freaky weird, then there's Jacob and all that weirdness. Correction: the name is Renesmee. I also just watched The Namesake and while I like Kal Penn, I would have much preferred Dev Patel for the role."

I also do not appreciate my neighbors who not only play music really loudly, but play the same songs over and over and over again.

4 Day Countdown

This is it, the four days before I get to go home to my wonderful city in all its glory and magnificence!

T-minus 4: Homecoming; a lame high school event that makes '12 all giddy because we haven't seen our high school besties in much too long; included: reunion runs to DD, lots of hugging and smiling and all that cheesy nonsense, and i think there's food involved, no?

T-minus 3: NYC; this has just been the longest I've been away from a city and I don't like it one bit; I miss being able to walk from Madison Sq. Park to Union Square to Herald Square to the west side to the High Line to Chelsea... and all the H&Ms in between

T-minus 2: Thanksgiving; at the end everyone feels overly bloated and miserable yet thankful for everything there is so be thankful for

T-minus 1: the PEOPLE! the fam, the girls, the MALES, the biddies, the sibbies, and every wonderful new yorker!

i'm super giddy and anxious and there are just so many things i need to do (Shake Shack runs: fine dining at its best) before re-entering the world of no return (SoHads). i also need to absorb testosterone which is obviously non-existent in SoHads

Week(end) Update

1. I have an insatiable quench for artsy-fartsy-ness. Let's pretend that's a real thing. I need an art class.
2. 1 typo on my beautiful case study = so much head-smashing. Mother, this is proof that I am putting your hard earned income to good use.
3. Too much time on my hands.
4. Life of Pi movie! Looks really cool. Jk I haven't seen the trailer yet, so I wouldn't know
update: it looks super great although i quite disagree with the usage of Paradise towards the latter half

5. The Hobbit's coming out.. can't wait! Nerdbots unite :3
6. You know you've chosen the right major when all of your classes seem like 'fun classes.' Now all I have to do is get off all those damn waitlists.

Happy Founder's Day

Hello, all! I am currently nestled by the cozy fireplace in my dorm's common room (of course) on this lovely Saturday night. I also feel inexplicably tired and ready for bed even though it's only 7:00.

This past Thursday was Founder's Day and there was a series of events going on until last night. I went to the Opening Ceremony in which we learned a little bit about Mary Lyon and the history of the school as well as Mount Holyoke's journey through the years. The best part? There were cookies with a picture of Mount Holyoke on them!

It's too pretty to eat, so I still have it but my French teacher said that they're really yummy!

Also on Thursday was a Gracious Dinner, fashion exhibit of clothing worn back in the day at Mount Holyoke, and musical performances from the Music department and its many ensembles.

Then on Friday I went to see Soledad O'Brien speak which was very energizing and uplifting! I felt so empowered to go out into the world and cure cancer/eradicate poverty/solve global warming, but I fell asleep and I guess I just slept off all the excitement.

Happy 175 years, Mount Holyoke!

snow? je déteste.

if it's only going to get colder, i don't think any of my attire is weather-appropriate. brb while i go buy myself a coxswain suit. automatic snowman.
but my new bean boots (yay!) can work their magic. i have never worn such heavy shoes before.

i have to read 6 chapters of sex and salvation for my anthro class tomorrow. i started it yesterday, have comprehended nothing, and tried to read for the past 2 hours. unsuccessful, to say the least.

i also spend a lot of time next to the fireplace. i try to schedule 'fireplace time' into my schedule everyday. i end up napping a lot.

Romney 2102

Before you misread the title and start bashing me, please watch this: Click here, click here!

I'll just give you a moment to have a few laughs.

ANYWAY,
I voted today! It was super exciting and I felt so fulfilled afterwards! I spent the day a little nervous hoping that Romney wouldn't be voted into the Presidency. But then I wondered how the President must feel! If I were him on election day, I'd be pulling my hair out in nerves. Sure, I have so much faith that our country will make the best decision but the polls had been so close for so long! So it was a little nerve wracking.

I hope everyone 18+ voted today as well! Holy mackerel, I'm 18. When did that happen?

The pompom on my red hat came off :( This makes me quite sad and I must figure out how to fix it.
plus i think my printer's broken. boo :(
